Art Display

John's Island artist Haydee Verdia will display prints of her original works featuring scenes of Charleston. She will also have a variety of postcards and greeting cards for viewing in our glass display case.
Word Search Mania! (ages 11 and under)
October 1 – 31
Complete each word search and win a prize. There will be a new one each week and a special prize for those who complete all of the word searches!

Do you speak Spanish but need help learning English for day-to-day living? Learn to speak conversational English in a fun and informal way.

Carl Winters: Kalimba King (all ages)
Thursday, October 2 at 12:30 p.m.
The nationally renowned musician Carl Winters plays the kalimba, a.k.a. the African thumb piano. He will perform an array of songs created especially for this instrument. Join us for an afternoon of musical entertainment for all ages!

Game On! (grades 6 – 12)
Mondays, October 6, 13, 20, 27 from 4 – 5 p.m.
Come to the computer lab and join teens who love to play online games @ the library. All teens must have library cards with Internet access to participate. Participation in this program does not count against your two computer sessions per day. Space is limited; first come, first served.

Oh Baby! (24 months any younger with an adult)

Babies love books! Bring your baby and we’ll prove it!

Club Anime! (ages 12 – 19)
Tuesday, October 7 from 4 – 5:30 p.m.
The teen club dedicated to the art of Anime and Manga is in session! Don't miss a chance to Cosplay with Ms. Tama! Wear your Anime related costumes and accessories to this club meeting and receive a special prize.

Knitting Group (adults)
Tuesdays, October 7 and 21 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy the company of other adult knitters. Meet to exchange ideas. Bring your projects and knit with friends. Open to knitters of all skill levels.

The Chatter Box @ John’s Island Library (grades 6 – 12)
Wednesday, October 8, 15, 22 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
The Chatter Box has a bunch to chatter about in October! We'll have contests for Banned Books Week and Teen Read Week. There are also football games, Halloween, and final election debates for November's historic election. Teen Read Week contest sponsored by our local independent bookstore, Indigo Books, Freshfields Village.

Saturday Movie Matinee: Speed Racer (all ages)

Join us at the library for a fun day at the movies. Hurtling down the track, running over and through the competition, Speed Racer is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless in his incredible Mach 5 built by his father. Rated PG; 135 minutes. Ichigo and company save the day in this meeting's Anime selection! Join us for the Bleach movie Memories of Nobody. This meeting will last 30 minutes longer than usual.

Sea Islands Book Club (adults)
Tuesday, October 21 at 2 p.m.
Come to our book club and discuss On Agate Hill by Lee Smith. An orphan and refugee following the Civil War, Molly Petree is not interested in self-pity. After being rescued by a mysterious benefactor, Molly decides against marrying two well-born suitors to wed a philandering mountaineer who she is later accused of murdering. Copies of the book may be obtained from the Reference Desk while supplies last.

The Incredible Hulk “Marvels” about Report Cards (grades 6 – 12)
